Someone went Cold Hand Luking in Richmond, Virginia recently.

Like a meniscus tear, April passed quickly and quietly. That sentence contains a pun that will be lost on future generations.

If I rooted for your team in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, your team is probably no longer playing. To help with your betting endeavors, I’m rooting for Denver against Phoenix, Philly against Boston, Miami against New York, and for Los Angeles and Golden State to go either four or seven games. Don’t bet the house.

The following items are the writings that saw a bulletin board this past month. The sci-fi bit on the Phoenix Suns was initially drafted in February or March of 2020 with the exception of the current ending, which needed KD in Arizona to be written as is. Airport Beers is an interview series I’m hoping to keep going every other month. I anticipate interviewing more than just writers, but I was absolutely thrilled Mike Nagel agreed to do this first one. And Giannis shouldn’t retire despite what stupid jokes I may have made. I rewatched the fourth quarter of that Game 5 of that Miami-Milwaukee series the other day — the success of the Jimmy Butler onslaught is still as surprising as it is predictable. The way in which he and the Heat flipped the switch down the stretch of that game suggests they never believed they could lose it in the first place.

NBA Fan Fiction: Kevin Durant and Chris Paul star in Alien Suns” (early April at Fansided’s The Step Back)

Airport beers with Mike Nagel’s Duplex” (April 10)

Giannis should retire by 9:30 pm EST” (April 27)

That busted parking meter is near the parking garage where Gillian and I parked recently for a trip to Richmond. The Drive-By Truckers played a stage on Brown’s Island to kickoff the city’s outdoor concert series. Highlights from the show included a tribute to Richmond artist Wes Freed who was the visionary behind the band’s aesthetic as well as No BS! Brass playing alongside DBT for several songs.

We drove down I-95 in the rain. We focused on the word “scattered” in the forecast. The weather cleared up, we ate some tacos, we ate some ice cream, the show was good. In the morning, we saw the busted parking meter and walked along the James River.
